The Anchor Fish and Chips

Dined on August 9th.

After a stop at Dangerous Man Brewing, we walked down the street to the Anchor Fish & Chips for dinner. The restaurant is located in a quiet area in Northeast Minneapolis. Surprisingly, I had never been there as I had been told that it was difficult to get in due to its popularity and they did not take reservations.

First Impression: At first glance, there was no wait, no line, and hardly any patrons when we walked into the place. We were greeted and seated right way. The place is unassuming, cozy and dark. I assume it is a take on a real Irish pub.

Eats:

fish and chips

We could not pass up the Fish & Chips ($10.50) as it came highly recommended by the waitress of course. The fish was a Wild Alaskan Cod served over hand cut chips (fries). The fish was cooked nicely and tasted great. You also have the option of ordering the fish with tartar sauce ($.50). I suggest that you get it as it is absolutely worth it and it gives the fish a lot more flavor. The hand cut chips or fries were pretty good as well.

Instead of the fish and chips, I went another direction and ordered the 2nd most popular item on the menu per the waitress. The Helicopter Burger ($14) which also comes with chips was messy. Make sure you have plenty of napkins on hand for this one. The burger is topped with Irish Cheddar, Fischer Farms ham, and a fried egg. The flavor of the burger is definitely unique. The combination of the ham and the beef make this a worthy burger and a stand out. If you love burgers, you should check it out.
Verdict: I am glad to have finally made it to the Anchor Fish and Chips. I suggest you do the same for the service, the affordable good eats, and the large portions. They might be known for their fish and chips, but they have other items on their menu including Shepherd’s Pie, Sausage, Meat Pastie, and Burgers. They also serve breakfast on the weekend. Make sure to stop in if you are ever in the Northeast Minneapolis area or are simply craving some fish and chips.
