Dined on December 28th.
For my last post of 2016, I would like to write about Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter as a promise to my good friend James who recommend it. The Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter is a family owned and operated German restaurant in Stillwater that has been around since 1966.
First Impression: The restaurant is nestled in a pine forest which is literally in the middle of nowhere. The outside features goats and chickens. The inside had a cabin feel atmosphere. The place is definitely unique.
I ordered the special which came with either Soup or Salad. I opted for the Goulash Soup. The soup was tomato based, thick, flavorful, and filled with chunks of meat. It was a nice delicious cup of soup filled with warmth.
The special was a Bourbon marinated pork served with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. I substituted the sauerkraut with vegetables. The meal also came with a creamy gravy, which I doused the mashed potatoes in. The gravy greatly elevated the mashed potatoes. The pork was sweet, tender and cooked nicely.
You must be doing something right if you have been around for over 50 years. I am glad to have made a stop at Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter. A place with only German imported beers on tap is worth a visit. I need to acknowledge the great service too. We were well treated and learned that a majority of the staff had been around for 20+ years. If ever in Stillwater, visit this great family restaurant serving good German food.
