112 Eatery

Dined on August 3rd.

112 Eatery has been around since 2005 and is located in the Minneapolis Warehouse District. It does not need any introduction, as it has made the Mpls St Paul Magazine’s readers’ poll top restaurant list consistently 10 years in a row. Chef Isaac Becker and his amazing food have been awarded Best Chef, Midwest in 2011 and semi-finalist for Outstanding Chef, 2014 from the James Beard Foundation.

First Impression: This was not our first time at 112 Eatery, so there were no surprises. We walked into the restaurant, checked in with the hostess, and got seated right away. My recommendation is to make reservations, as there is always some kind of wait for a table or space at the bar. 112 has dining areas on two floors. The main floor dining room is small and narrow with a small bar area. The space can feel cramped and loud at times, yet the dark wood decor and soft lighting makes the place feel cozy and classy. I believe the second floor dining area closely matches the first floor with its decor and its own full bar. One exception is the space upstairs is bigger and quieter.

Lamb Scottadito

For the appetizer, we went with our usual, the Lamb Scottadito w/ goat’s milk yogurt ($16.50). The dish comes with 3 lamb chops, served over a yogurt sauce. The lamb was well seasoned and cooked perfectly, with a slight outer crust to the tender meat. When you add in the refreshing flavor of the creamy yogurt sauce, it becomes a delicious dish that will not disappoint. One of our favorite menu items.

Cauliflower Fritters

For a side, we shared the Cauliflower Fritters ($12). The cauliflower are cooked to the perfect texture. The salty cheese with the hint of lemon balance out this dish for the perfect side. This was as tasty as it always is…another one of our go to dishes.

Alaskan Cod

Sarah ordered the Market Fish w/ Yuca & Sauce Maltaise ($30). The market fish was an Alaskan Cod. The dish was comprised of the perfect portion of mild, melt in your mouth fish. The creamy yuca and the flavors in the sauce were first class. This dish reminded us why we keep coming back to try new things at 112.

112 Cheeseburger

One of the reasons I love 112 Eatery is because they have the best tasting burger in the Cities. This burger is absolute perfection. The 112 cheese burger ($12) is more unique than any other burger around. It might look small, but it will definitely fill you up. The buttery ground beef patty is full of bold, rich flavors. Instead of your standard American cheese, this burger is topped with brie cheese, and lots of it. Who knew? But it works, and brings the burger to a surprisingly fantastic level. To add to its uniqueness, the bun is a homemade English muffin. Finally, the burger comes with a side of spicy pickles which you can enjoy on or off of the burger.
We typically end up too full for dessert, however we recommend saving room for it. The tres leches cake is Sarah’s favorite dessert in town.
Verdict: 112 Eatery is one of my favorite dinner spots. Not simply for their 112 cheese burger, but for the great food they serve. The service is always professional and attentive. The atmosphere is laid back and classy. They definitely offer a great dining experience.
